Curriculum Aims:

The aims of the History curriculum are to enable students to:

  • develop an interest in the study of the past and understand the present in the context of the past;
  • discover where they stand in the contemporary world through understanding the origins and development of modern events;
  • understand the characteristics and values of their own culture, and appreciate the shared humanity and common problems of the world’s many peoples;
  • develop distinctive skills of critical thinking, making sound judgments and effective communication through exploring historical issues ;
  • approach past and current events in an impartial and empathetic manner, using a variety of perspectives (political, economic, technological and scientific, social, religious,etc.);
  • cultivate both national consciousness and the consciousness of being citizens of the global community, the nation and the world; and
  • be prepare d to explore in greater depth an issue of personal interest, or one that may be of relevance to their future careers and professional studies.
Subject Description:
  • At junior secondary level, the curriculum of History is school-based. It provides our students with the knowledge of a broad range of human experiences stretching from ancient times to modern times. After each unit, self-directed learning activities and exercises are designed to arouse students’ interest in learning history.
  • The study of history at senior secondary level is based upon knowledge of history that students should have acquired a junior secondary level.
  • At senior secondary level, the time frame in the curriculum concentrates on the study of 20 th century history. Two major themes have been included in the course of study with a view to ensuring a more thorough coverage of the world and promoting the development of a global outlook among students:
    • Theme A : Modernization and Transformation of 20 th Century Asia;
    • Theme B : Conflicts and Cooperation in the 20 th Century World
Subject in Forms:
  • We offer History in S.1, S.2 and S.3.
  • We also offer History from S.4 to S.6 . It is one of the elective subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma Secondary Education Examination.
