About our School Name and Ms Wong Siu Ching

Our school is named after Ms Wong Siu Ching for her contributions to the Po On Commercial Association in building the school.

Ms Wong, native of Dapeng Town of Po On County, was born into a wealthy family in a local village in 1903. Her father Mr Wong Chiu Tung, graduated from Boading Military Academy of the late Qing Dynasty, was a man of extensive knowledge. Ms. Wong Siu Ching was married to Mr. Cheung and went to live in the US. After her husband passed away, she returned to Hong Kong and ran a business. Ms Wong led a simple, frugal life and kept a low profile. But she was active and generous in charitable work, donating to build schools and help the elderly and the young, to the benefit of many people in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and the vicinity.

In the mid-1950s, Ms Wong led in establishing the Dapeng Secondary School Founding Committee and donated HK$150,000 as the start-up fund. This was the origin of the present Dapeng Huaqiao Secondary School in Shenzhen.

In the late 1970s, when the Po On Commercial Association was planning a secondary school, Ms Wong donated HK$700,000 to the foundation, and in appreciation, the School Board decided to name the new school after her.

Ms Wong passed away in 1984 at the age of 81.
