My trip to Cambridge

This summer, I went to Cambridge and it was the most unforgettable trip ever! I am really thankful to our school and the Rotary club of Wan Chai for sponsoring me. They have given me a great experience!

Cambridge was a very wonderful place with big blue sky and fresh air. There were no skyscrapers, and there were not as many cars as there are in Hong Kong. People there often used bicycles to get around so there was little to air pollution there. I totally fell in love with the heavenly environment in Milton Country Park.

I stayed with a host family. My roommate was Alexia who was from Spain and who was a very nice and talkative girl. We chatted a lot when we were walking back home at 10pm after school. My homestay was quite far away from school, but I never felt alone since I always had her to talk to.

There were many beautiful and historical buildings in Cambridge, such as King's College, St. John's College and St. Mary's Church. They are all famous tourist spots that are worth a visit! My favourite building was King's College. I was attracted by its amazing architectural style. It was very beautiful and I liked it very much! I couldn't stop taking photos of it when I first saw it. When I was touring Cambridge, the guide told me that there were many famous people who’d graduated from King's College such as Robert Walpole, who was the first Prime Minister of Great Britain, and Alan Turing, who was a mathematician and computer scientist. King's College has a really long history, and I wish I could study there.

I studied in a summer school called Select English for 3 weeks with two groups of classmates who came from countries as varied as Germany, Poland, Italy, Georgia and France. They were all very nice and welcoming. In the first two weeks, I stayed in class Dublin. My classmates were creative, and they were good at different kinds of things. Ola was a Polish girl who was good at riding horses; Nicola was an Italian girl who was good at drawing and Janak was a German boy and who was good at Maths. I enjoyed spending my time with this class.

This trip was rewarding. I learnt to be independent and to try to solve problems by myself. For example, when I didn't know which way to go, I had to ask others myself. I became more sociable too since I had the chance to talk to people from different countries. I learnt more grammar items in lessons and I learnt how to work with others in group work. During school time, we also taught each other about our own languages too.  It was a really meaningful trip.

I hope I can meet the friends I made there again some day and keep in touch with them well. This was the most unforgettable trip ever for me.
